Blue light gang kills businessman

A Johannesburg businessman has been shot dead allegedly by "blue light" robbers, police said on Wednesday.

Captain Cynthia Magoai said Peter Granat, 54, was killed on Monday night in Parkwood by robbers using fake blue lights to imitate police. His body was found next to his Toyota Land Cruiser.

"At the moment this is the only incident in the Parkwood area where fake blue lights have been used in robberies."

She said police were investigating the matter and no arrests had been made.

The Star reported on Wednesday that Granat was lured to a dark alley between Bolton and Wells streets where he was shot once in the head.

The newspaper also reported that several hijackings in Sandton, Randburg, Douglasdale and Midrand were being carried out by gangs in unmarked cars with a blue light on the dashboard.

Granat was the managing director of Autozone.
