Fire-fighter seriously injured in blaze
A fire-fighter is in a serious but stable condition in the Netcare Milpark Hospital after he was struck by falling debris while battling a fire at an amphitheatre in Mofolo Road, Dube, Soweto, on Wednesday evening, January 18, 2012.
“The cause of the fire and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation”, said Jeff Wisks of Netcare 911.
Common cause information indicates that the fireman had been inside the burning structure when part of it caved in. Falling debris collapsed onto the man who was pulled from the rubble by others in his team.
He had sustained significant chest and facial trauma and was in a serious condition. Netcare911 Paramedics and Provincial Emergency Service personnel worked hand in hand to stabilise the man before he was transported by ambulance to the specialist hospital for further medical care.
