Female fighting for her life in Millpark hospital

A female driver is in a critical condition after a head-on collision on the R26 in the Magalliesburg area at around 3.45pm this afternoon. Bystanders report that a truck came around a bend and collided with the VW Golf.

When paramedics from Netcare 911 Province and Life arrived at the scene they found the twisted remains of the V W scattered across the roadway with the driver still trapped in the wreckage and in a critical condition. The truck veered off the road after impact and came to rest some meters from the road into the bush.

While medics fervently worked to stabilise the critically wounded female firemen struggled for more than an hour to free her from the twisted metal using the Jaws of Life. After the patient was placed on a ventilator and skilfully immobilised she was airlifted with the Netcare 1 Medical helicopter to the Netcare Millpark hospital for the specialised treatment she requires.

Traffic officials and police closed the R24 to traffic to allow the helicopter to land near the accident scene.
