Convicted Parkview cop still on duty
Sean Twala, the convicted police inspector, is still at work at the Parkview Police Station. He was convicted of extortion and defeating the administration of justice in May this year, and faces still more charges, including corruption.
Superintendent Opperman of the Gauteng SAPS says that according to the Labour Relations Act and the Police Act, Twala must be permitted to work until the legal process is complete. "Unfortunately, the legal situation is such that we have to continue to employ him," said Opperman.
Until he is sentenced and sent to jail he will be in the employ of the SAPS. Opperman went on to say that in these situations the police officer normally works under close supervision.
