The Ridge Grade 7s put on Romeo and Juliet
The Ridge School's Grade 7s recently performed Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to great acclaim.
Read the comments from one parent: "Congratulations on the flamboyant play! Hearty congratulations must also be extended to the Grade 7s, who clearly have talent in abundance. From what I have heard from inside sources, the characters of this classic love story began to seep into many of the actors’ psyches because there was a constant titter about dresses, enormous crosses and the colour of Juliet’s wig.
The weeks of rehearsing and endless preparation paid off because when it came down to the final analysis; the play was declared pure comedic genius. At first glance, the role of Juliet appeared to be a miscast because of Mr. Dylan Rice’s sonorous voice but as the play progressed it proved to be casting genius. The resonant voice of this gifted actor struck the perfect balance between jest and profundity because one could only wonder why two insightful directors would choose a boy with an over-whealmingly mellow voice to play the female lead; when there is no shortage of boys with voices as shill as that of a helium-enhanced chipmunk. Nevertheless, it became clear that every detail of Juliet’s character was strategic because throughout the play, whenever Juliet appeared on stage the audience launched into peals of spluttering laughter- a reaction only the most devious of directors can achieve." - The Roguish Roulette
