At the end of September the association had facilitated a quote from Urban Forest for transplantation of the pavement trees Integrale Architects propose removing from the pavement at the former filling station. The matter is in the hands of the developers. So far no action has been taken and the matter rests.

The Braamfontein Spruit Initiative is making gradual progress, led by Mr Jaco Louw and with assistance from Mr Geoff Lockwood of the Delta Environmental Centre. The idea is to do assessments of the river in stretches and compile action lists of activities a community along the river banks could undertake.

Typically that would include cleaning, eradication of invasive plant species and keeping an eye on appropriate use of the park as an amenity. More severe problems, such as bank erosion and structural damage should be left to the city's engineers, for reasons of capacity, cost and liability. Councillor Truluck confirmed that funds had been allocated to fix the collapsed gabions.

As the initiative gains momentum it is intended to compile action plans for coordinated intervention, according to agreed environmental approaches, among the suburbs living along the river and the interest groups using the river.

A first inspection has been done along the Braamfontein Spruit between 4th Avenue and the end of 9th street. A follow-up assessment is being planned for later during the month to deal with Delta Park and its use.
