Angelique hot contender for FHM 100 Sexiest Women 2010
Rosebank's Angelique Pretorius - so much more than a pretty face!
Johannesburg’s premier entertainment venue MOVIDA in Sunninghill hosted an FHM party for Angelique on Saturday, May 1 in support of her voting campaign. One of the hottest contenders for the FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2010 title to be decided in May is undoubtedly the sultry actress and model Angelique Pretorius.
But you only need to spend a moment or two with this 20-something performer to delight in the fact that there is more depth to Angelique; here is one sizzler that’s so much more than a pretty face.
Whilst an established actress and model highly respected by colleagues
and peers alike, few people might realise that Angelique’s career path very nearly headed in to the sciences; having received top grades in Maths, Science and Ad Maths, Angelique’s original career plans were Architecture and she completed a Draughting Course before the acting bug took over, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Born in London, raised in Klerksdorp and then Johannesburg, where she did her schooling and her love of acting was born. Whilst still at school she started notching up accolades including the ‘Best Actress’ award for the Raps Festival (a competition for all Johannesburg schools).
Believing she needed to experience more of life, after school she took a gap year and travelled to New York, Europe and Morocco. She then completed a 4-year Theatre and Performance (Honours) Degree at UCT, with an additional major in English Literature, and was named 'Best Bilingual Student' in her final year of study.
She took on various theatre roles in university plays, including Ophelia in Hamlet (which she considers the highlight of her theatre roles) and Miriam in Mephisto, which travelled to the Grahamstown Festival. In her spare time she acted in student short-films and shot several international commercials.
After her studies she performed a multi-media one-woman show, called Yskas, which travelled to Cape Town and at the KKNK. This production was a multi-media production and perhaps too risqué for an SA audience. When she moved back to Johannesburg her focus shifted from theatre - which she still loves - to TV, film and voice work.
She’s instantly recognised in public now due to the many television roles she’s also had the privilege of performing. Local roles include Snitch II, House of Love, Kruispad, Madam & Eve as well as the UK series Rough. Recent highlights have been roles in Villa Rosa and most recently Egoli, in which she played Rieke, mother of the much-loved seven year old, Zaniele. She's also played in local feature films Tornado by Regardt van den Berg and Bloedspoor, which is due for release shortly.
Angelique is also in constant demand for commercials, modelling as well as regular voice recordings for radio and TV with her being fluently bilingual in both English and Afrikaans.
Last year she returned to the stage in a play, called Done London, which travelled to the Grahamstown Festival.
Most recently she shot a Bobby van Jaarsveld’s music video entitled ‘Net Vir Jou’ as well as the comedy sitcom ‘Rasdien’ (due for broadcast in October 2010).
Says Angelique; “I love performing in all forms. For me, acting is half shame, half glory. Shame at exhibiting yourself, glory when you can forget yourself. There’s no better career to be in.”
Angelique is currently exploring various exciting future possibilities whilst enjoying basking in the glow of being shortlisted for the FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2010 which is also opening a whole new world of career opportunities for her.
